Spring sports signings keep rolling in across Brevard

Brevard County high school seniors continued to sign with college programs this week as their high school days drew to a close.

At Merritt Island, 12 signed from six sports teams on Friday. Those included football players Luke Clark, headed to The Apprentice School in Newport News, Virginia; Cedric Houston, to McMurray College of Illinois; and Taquan Pratt, New Mexico Military Institute. Baseball players Michael Grenon (Ave Maria) and Tyler Stephens (Shorter University) signed, as did volleyball players Abby Shaffer (Eastern Florida State College) and Gigi Parlapiano (Ave Maria).

Bowler Gabby Irwin signed with Bethune Cookman and teammate Miranda Remmell with Alabama State. Jamie Farls of the Mustangs girls soccer team picked EFSC. From the cross country team, Monet Madeux became the first signee for Tallahassee Community College, and Nathan Paladino signed with Norwich University of Vermont.

Palm Bay held a signing ceremony for three basketball players on Wednesday. Joel Marshall chose Clinton College of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and teammate Gabe Farley joined him. Farley’s sister, Madison Farley, signed with Missouri Valley College of Marshall.

Two locals make all-star rosters

Two Brevard County high school seniors were selected for the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-Star Softball Classic: Molly McLaughlin of Rockledge and Ryen Emmons of Merritt Island. It will be played at Forest High in Ocala on Friday and Saturday. They will play for the East team, and their first game will be at 8 p.m. on Friday, followed by a game at 10 a.m. or noon on Saturday. Tickets are $5 per day.

Heritage golf tournament is Saturday

There will be a golf tournament to raise money for Heritage High basketball at 8 a.m. Saturday at The Habitat Golf Course in Grant-Valkaria. The cost is $65 per person. That covers breakfast, greens fees, prizes and a buffet lunch. For information, contact Stephen Link at 321-480-2412 or Bill Link at 321-223-7994.

Cocoa fundraiser is May 21

The fundraising golf tournament for Cocoa High football is May 21 at Turtle Creek Golf Club. This seventh annual event will begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at a cost of $75 per player. That covers range balls, a cart, greens fee, goody bag and lunch.
