Jarad Baker scored a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter for Eau Gallie on Wednesday to help the Commodores to a halftime lead they held through the end in a 21-0 postseason bowl win at Cypress Creek in Orlando.

Quarterback Jack Gallo scored on a 4-yard keeper in the second half, completing the shutout.

“The defense played outstanding,” head coach Tim Powers said after his team regrouped from Friday to Wednesday to play an opponent that showed some single wing, I-formation and shotgun spread offense. “Having two days in helmets and shorts to prepare for three different offenses was a challenge, but I think the staff did a great job just get them ready to line up.”

For the first time since 2013, Eau Gallie posted a winning football season, finishing 7-4. This was also the fifth consecutive season the team was .500 or better.

“The program’s probably in the healthiest spot that I’ve seen while I’ve been around it for around 20 years,” Powers said. “We have quality players in every classification, from seniors down to freshman. Any time you get an opportunity to play in the postseason and get that victory, it just makes you that much more hungry to get back to work.”

Cypress Creek finished 5-6.

The Bears, trailing 14-0 in the fourth period, threatened to score before Cordell Dzara intercepted a pass and returned it 65 yards to set up Gallo’s touchdown.
