Several more Brevard County athletes have signed national letters of intent or announced their intentions to do so since the opening day of the fall signing period last week.
On Thursday, Bayside softball player Nikki Pennington signed to play for Florida Gulf Coast University. Her teammate, Caitlin Meyer, is expected to sign with Eastern Florida State College.

Across the county at Rockledge, Emily Sidor and Kaitlin Ruether signed with UNC Asheville and Xavier University, respectively, for tennis. Sidor was half of the girls state doubles championship in 2015, and Ruether won the No. 3 singles bracket in 2014.
Signing day brings perspective for Brevard HS seniors
On Friday, Amanda Beach of Melbourne Central Catholic cross country, was scheduled to sign with Duke University. Beach had Brevard County’s best time of 17:47 this year and placed fifth in Class 2A.
Lina Shaver of Cocoa Beach softball is scheduled to sign with Flagler College on Wednesday.

Locals named to FACA all-star game
Three Brevard County high school football players have been selected to play in the 62nd annual Florida Athletic Coaches Association North-South All-Star Football Classic at The Villages on Dec. 17.
Jayden Jackson, Melbourne High safety, was chosen, along with Dez Arthur, a wide receiver from Palm Bay, and Cocoa quarterback Bruce Judson.

MCC hosting alumni game
Melbourne Central Catholic will hold its alumni baseball game on Nov. 25 at 10 a.m. The 2016 graduates will be honored for making it to the state semifinal round, and Kavan Thompson will be inducted into the Hustlers Baseball Hall of Fame.

EFSC holding tryouts, camps for high school athletes
Eastern Florida State College will offer two opportunities for athletes of high school age in early December.
On Dec. 3, high school juniors and seniors can attend tryouts for the women’s volleyball team from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Titans Field House on the Melbourne campus. Players will be evaluated by the EFSC coaching staff and have the chance to meet current Titans.

The following day, the men’s soccer team will hold an Elite ID camps from 10 a.m. through 6 p.m. at the soccer complex along Post Road. It is for players ages 15 through 21. College recruiters will be on hand, and participants will be evaluated for their abilities. Coaches will hold a seminar on being a college athlete.
