Judson leads all-district football team

Brevard County high school football coaches have named Cocoa High quarterback Bruce Judson the District 12 MVP for 2016.

The Tigers also led the all-district roster with seven players selected, while three each from Palm Bay and Viera were named to team.

Entering Friday’s 64-0 Class 4A regional semifinal win over Bishop Verot, Judson had passed for 889 yards and 13 touchdowns in eight games, completing 69 percent of his passes. He had also run for 503 yards on 77 attempts, scoring five touchdowns on the ground.

The Tigers senior has announced he intends to sign with the University of South Florida in February.

Palm Bay running back B.J. Daniels was the runner-up in district MVP voting, followed by Titusville linebacker Bobby Bruce and Space Coast receiver Jason Browning.

Daniels leads the county in rushing yards with 1,704 and has run for 25 touchdowns. Bruce was among the leading tacklers in the county with 125, making double-digit tackles in nine of 10 games. Browning led the county in receptions with 59 for 859 yards and nine scores.

The coaches named a player of the year in each classification for Brevard: Viera linebacker Brandon Mays in 7A, Eau Gallie receiver Darin Garland in 6A, Bruce in 5A, Judson in 4A,Holy Trinity back Joshua Corbin in 3A and among independent teams, Cocoa Beach’s David Demeter and Merritt Island Christian’s Tim Whitley.

Hallock earns another coaching honor

In his final season as Astronaut High head football coach, Randy Hallock has been named to coach the East in the Central Florida All-Star Game.

The game will be played Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Lake Brantley HIgh. It is the 18th edition of the game, which matches representatives from Brevard, Seminole, Volusia and Flagler counties against players from Orange, Osceola, Lake and Sumter.

Astronaut High seeks new coach

With the retirement of Hallock, who won 132 games in 19 seasons, Astronaut has invited applications for the head coaching job there.

The new coach will assume duties on Jan. 6, including a teaching role that will require a Florida teaching certification in a subject to be determined. The deadline for application is Dec. 1.
