Worden, the head coach at Nature Coast Tech for the last three seasons, will follow 19-year War Eagles head coach Randy Hallock, who announced his decision to retire in October.

Worden’s team established a Hernando County standard for best season record when the team went 12-1 in 2015. This season, his team went 10-1, and the program has won 22 consecutive regular-season games.

“It’s nice to have the opportunity to come home,” Worden said. “The goal, obviously, is to get it back to where it was in the late 1990s and early 2000s. We want to be able to play physical, disciplined football and play with the best teams in Brevard County.”

Worden, a 2004 Astronaut graduate, has been coaching for 11 years. Before his three years at Nature Coast Tech, he was defensive coordinator at Oak Ridge, where he coached for five years. He previously coached at Astronaut and Merritt Island.

His parents both taught, and his mom still teaches. Dad Merrill Worden coached football and track and field for more than three decades. Justin, whose brother Kyle also competed at Astronaut and now coaches at Armwood, played receiver for the War Eagles.
