Satellite quarterback Alex Nicks ran for two scores and Noah Mumme threw for two more to lead the visiting Scorpions in a 34-26 spring football win over rival Cocoa Beach on Wednesday night.

Alex Nicks.
“We’ve got two good quarterbacks, Alex Nicks and Noah Mumme. We’re blessed. They both played well, executed well and they’re good athletes so they helped us out a lot tonight,” said Satellite head coach Mark Carstens.
In addition to the play of its quarterbacks, Satellite’s skill position players contributed as part of the Scorpion up-tempo spread attack, including Luis Morris, who finished with over 120 yards and two touchdowns on the evening.
“We just want to execute, play fast and take advantage of what the defense is doing. We did a great job of that,” said Carstens.

The game was delayed by almost 40 minutes due to inclement weather, which left the field very soggy in parts. That, combined with the fact it was a spring exhibition game led to miscues, particularly early.
Cocoa Beach was hurt by its inability to score in the red zone in the first half, and it came away empty on all three trips inside the Satellite 20-yard line that included two lost Minutemen fumbles.
The Minutemen staged a second-half comeback, scoring four touchdowns largely due to a power running attack led by David Demeter, who had 216 rushing yards on the evening.
“Give credit to Cocoa Beach, man. They kept fighting and that options tough to stop (and) prepare for in three or four days,” said Carstens.
But it was Satellite who ended up hanging on and picking up a win that they hope will give them momentum going into the fall.
“This is great. Last spring, we struggled a little bit in the spring game but this moving forward is awesome. We’re looking forward to a great season and being very competitive,” added Carstens.
