Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High principal Tim Cool and athletic director Fran Siljestrom were on hand recently for a check presentation from two area organizations benefiting the quest to replace the decades-old scoreboard at Minutemen Stadium.

Cocoa Beach’s Daybreak and Lunch Rotary Clubs donated $2,500 each for the cause, which likely will cost in the neighborhood of $25,000 for the scoreboard and installation.
With the combined gift, the school now has enough money to purchase the board and will continue to seek donations to fund the installation.

Baseball players invited to all-star game
Five Brevard County athletes were invited to play in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-Star Baseball Classic at Fireman’s Field in Sebring.
Local invitees Drew Parrish of Rockledge, Viera’s Alex Brait, Mark Potter of Melbourne Central Catholic and Luis Curbelo of Cocoa will play for the East. Rockledge’s Mason Studstill will play for the South.
This marks the 38th year of the all-star event. Each team will play one game a day, May 28-29. Tickets are $10 per day.

More seniors sign with colleges
Chasey Cubine of Covenant Christian signed a bowling scholarship recently with Emmanuel College of Franklin Springs, Ga. Cubine bowled for the Lions for seven years and finished first in the District 11 tournament this year.
On Wednesday, three Cocoa track and field athletes signed. Jeremy Lawson signed with Alcorn State. He won the Class 2A triple jump title this month at the FHSAA championship meet. Ashley Leonard signed with Augusta State, while Courtney Sweat signed with Arizona Christian.
